About the role

The AOD Client Engagement and Support Officer provides onsite and outreach harm reduction services, health promotion, education and service linkages to individuals and groups. Improving health, wellbeing and inclusion amongst People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) is the key purpose of this position. The program engages community provides support and advocacy, education, brief intervention, linkages to treatment and referral services. Within an interdisciplinary team, care is provided in a safe, person centred, confidential and non-judgmental manner.

Your duties include:

  • Providing clients access to services provided within the drop-in space and Needle and Syringe Program, with the capacity to work in a dynamic environment with multiple demands
  • Maximising opportunities to interact with clients to provide support, referral and engagement activities
  • Facilitating appropriate responses to changing trends of drug use
  • Prioritising activities relating to substance use chronic conditions, with a focus on harm reduction and self-management
  • Undertake community engagement, development activities and tasks which reduces stigma and promotes community safety and wellbeing

Our ideal candidate:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. AOD, Community Development, Social Work), Certificate IV or higher
  • Proof of qualification to be sighted
  • Minimum two years relevant work experience
  • Lived experience will be highly regarded

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Check, a Working with Children Check (WWCC), complete a Pre-employment declaration form, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses). Additionally, some roles will also require current AHPRA registration and/or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.

Roles that are determined to be Risk Category A or B [staff that have direct and/or indirect contact with body substances and are at higher risk of occupational exposure to infections] will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza prior to commencement [A] or within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
